Independence Cay History

In early February, 2009, a group of concerned citizens learned that the only homeless shelter in the Middle and Upper Keys was due to close. A handful of individuals stepped up to ensure that such vital services would not be interrupted and they opened "Independence Cay" on March 1, 2009.

As a local “success story of the year,” in just one year and with limited funds, "Indy Cay" forged an excellent reputation for collaborating with dozens of local and Keys wide organizations and agencies to accomplish the mission of “helping others help themselves.”
